The Hunger Dames: Proud to be an Ameriqueen

In the United States, July is a month for feeling proud: proud to be an American, proud to be an LGBTQ person, proud to be a devout ice cream fan...you name it, we're proud of it! And on this episode of The Hunger Dames, Scarlet Fairweather and special guests Miguel and Thai Me-Up talk about why they're proud to be Ameriqueens.

FOTD: Hurrah for Glitter!

I should know better than to ask a drag queen what she wants for Christmas/Hannukah/her birthday/insert relate-able celebration here. Every time I ask, I get one of three responses:
  1. weave
  2. glitter
  3. something to tuck with

Lucky for me, friend of the blog Scarlet Fairweather has her tucking routine down pat and understands my limited budget. So she requested #2 for Christmas 2014. But you see, she didn't want just any glitter: it had to be glitter worthy of Bianca del Rio.

I know Miss Bianca wears a lot of OCC products on her eyeballs, but I decided to go with Lit Cosmetics glitters instead. Why? Because they get rave reviews, there are more colors, and they sell a glitter glue that is apparently the bomb. I purchased the shade Cher (particle size 2) for Miss Scarlet. I never expected to try them on my own eyes because I'm a shimmerphobe who lives a rather boring life--not much room for glitter here!

Then the Beautylish Lucky Bag Debacle of 2015 happened, and several folks kindly offered to send my drag queen friend and I MORE Lit glitter on the cheap/for free. (Support your local drag queens, folks!)

We ended up with two packages of the "Hello Sunshine" glitter and mini Lit Clearly Liquid Base glitter primer, so I kept one on my end, fully expecting to never use it. Then Scarlet started swatching and applying them.

Guys...I think I'm falling in love with this glitter.

Overhead lighting is not my friend in general, but regardless: do you see that glitter?! Chanel IdOs are already pretty good stuff, but with some of that Lit glitter-and-primer combo pressed on top, there's ten times more shine and dimension. I know it's trite to say this, but...these photos don't do it justice.

As a sidenote, Scarlet is also wearing the Hello Sunshine glitter under her brows.

The Hunger Dames: Christmas Special

Christmas has all of Scarlet's favorite things: movies, cookies, and pretentious white people with cable news shows complaining about their local decorations. Please enjoy this delightful video of Scarlet describing our most cherished Christmas films with her usual piquant wit.

BONUS DRAG: Alaska Thunderf*** 5000 at Cruze

Former Pittsburgh queen and RuPaul's Drag Race alum Alaska returned to Pittsburgh on November 29, 2014 for a performance at Cruze. She performed two covers (Jewel's "Foolish Games" and Belinda Carlilse's "Heaven is a Place on Earth"), and of course, she did some of her own songs ("Nails," "Your Makeup is Terrible," "Stab You in the Neck," and "Hooker Heels"). She was on-point and totally hilarious for both of her sets.

We didn't stay around to meet her one-on-one, in part because we are old and 2am is our bedtime, but also because a lot of folks had driven quite a ways (from Canada!) just to meet her. We thought people like that deserved more of her time and attention.

Bonus Drag: Miss Coco Peru and RuPaul Charles in To Wong Foo

If you know me, then you know just how much I love a good comedy queen. Topping that list for nearly two decades is Miss Coco Peru, an actress, comedian, and all-around queen.

I first noticed Coco playing a bit-part in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (which, again, was my introduction to drag at the tender age of 8). The lead character, Vida, shares a tense moment with a fierce drag queen in yellow. Said queen had one line and took up very little screen time, but she had incredible stage presence and absolutely embodied the bitter rival. I was young, though, and the world wide web was still new to me, so I didn't think to look up a cast list and figure out who this badass was.

Several years later, To Wong Foo was playing on cable TV, and my interest was rekindled. Now totally acclimated to internet search engines, I figured out that Badass Queen in Yellow = Coco Peru, and I've been a fan ever since.

If you recognize her signature hair-do in these photos, but you've never seen To Wong Foo, then you may recognize her from one of her YouTube performances, like Let's Play Grand Theft Auto 5 With Coco Peru. And if you haven't watched that video, then you need to watch it right the Hell now. My totally heterosexual, not-really-interested-in-drag brother heard less than a minute of the video and immediately started quoting it, it's that good. WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT HAVE I CONVINCED YOU YET?!

And RuPaul? Heh. To Wong Foo was also my introduction to the legend...and my reaction when I first saw her is the stuff of legends as well. As she slowly descended to the stage in a form-fitting gown and a wig high enough to hit Heaven, I sighed to my friend, "I want to be as pretty as her some day."

"That's a MAN," my friend shot back.

Without missing a beat, and with every ounce of honesty pouring from my heart, I replied, "Then I've got a lot of work to do."

Bonus photo! Recognize any of these faboosh people?

The Hunger Dames: Halloween Special

Today, our good friend Scarlet Fairweather takes on a fall food adventure. Watch as she braves the terrors of "Pumpkin Spice Everything" and "Why the Hell is That Candy Apple Flavored?!" delights! It's all so you don't have to touch these monstrosities, my friends; she does it out of love.

Beauty Sightings: RuPaul's Drag Race, season 6

Season 6 is probably one of my all-time favorite seasons. Even though some of challenges were beyond insipid, and the editing shade was at an all-time high, I really loved some of the queens they brought on. Obviously, my favorite was winner Bianca Del Rio...AND I GOT TO SEE HER LIVE. (Still not over it.)

Click on a picture to expand it and get a better view. As always, if you recognize a product, leave me a comment so I can update the post!

There are a ton of images in this post, so I put all but the first picture under a break. Be sure to expand this post! I actually ran out of room for brand labels, which is why I decided to just remove most of them for this Beauty Sightings post.

ColorEvolution was the sponsor this season. Here are the brand-spanking new kits each queen was provided.

BONUS DRAG: Bianca Del Rio at Cattivo

Last night, I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite drag queens: Bianca Del Rio. She was hilarious, warm, and every bit the nasty bitch she claims to be. I recommend that anybody considering attending a Bianca Del Rio show definitely make a point to go, because it was one of the best drag shows of my life. Meeting her was an absolute delight--VIP tickets are definitely worth it, at least here in the 'burgh!

I did my best to record most of her set, excluding the lip syncs, but I had just received this point-and-shoot camera at 2pm (6 hours before we left for the show). I didn't realize that most cheaper cameras cut off the sound when you zoom. :( I'm REALLY sorry about that, but you can still hear most of the jokes. Please adjust your volume and enjoy!

WARNING: This video contains very explicit material, including jokes about race, religion, gender, incest, and sex. It is not recommended for people under the age of 18, or for people who dislike insult comics.

The Hunger Dames: Scarlet Doesn't Know Shit

Welcome to our very first episode of The Hunger Dames, a new feature focusing on food, drag, and general weirdness! Today, we're going to find out if local queen Scarlet Fairweather knows what the Hell she's talking about...while she eats a cheeseburger. (Have you ever seen a queen eat in full drag? Always oddly entertaining.)

This is a new segment we're trying out, so let us know if there's anything else you'd like to see featured on this segment!

Beauty Sightings: Marco Marco Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

A fashion show probably seems like a strange place to go for beauty sightings, as the models' makeup is often very homogenous and there isn't a whole lot of behind-the-scenes footage. But the Marco Marco Spring/Summer 2014 collection gave us a rare treat: a runway dominated by drag queens and transgender models, all of whom appear to have done their own makeup, if this behind-the-scenes treat is to be believed. And with a wide variety of drag queens comes a wide variety of beauty product sightings!

I see some Ru Glue (ie, an Elmer's glue stick, used to flatten brow hairs) and some Tresemee hair spray. Anybody recognize the palette?

Liquid liner; the shot moves too quickly for me to see, but it looks like it COULD be MAC Boot Black.

That looks like a bottle of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in that kit! Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. (I'd say it's Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid, but the cap shown here looks black, not blue. Y/N?)

The NARS Loves Los Angeles palette from 2013. I think this belongs to Willam, but that could just be the editing playing tricks on me.

I do believe that's an NYC liquid eyeliner! Hilariously, I notice that most drag queens seem to use cheaper drugstore liquid liners (Almay, NYC, NYX, MAC, etc). It's probably not cost-effective to buy the super-expensive options, considering how much black liquid liner the average drag queen uses.

I'm 99% sure that this is L'oreal True Match powder based on the lid of the compact and its overall design, but wow, what a yellow-looking shade!

A gratuitous porn shot featuring some MUFE and Smith's Rosebud Salve.

Speaking of beauty, can we all take a moment to appreciate the one and only Mathu Andersen? I dream of having him do my makeup some day. He is pure perfection.

GLORIOUS.

Now for a side note: I'll be away for my sister's destination wedding for a while, plus I'll be entertaining my boyfriend for most of May. With that in mind, BOGL will be on a hiatus for the rest of May. Posts will resume in June.

See in you summer!

They come in a variety of flavors (campy, glamour, shock-jock, big, small, black, white, sweet n' salty, so on) and know how to paint for the back row. Today, one of my favorite drag queens, Scarlet Fairweather, is answering your questions about high heels, contouring, and camel toes.

FOTD: Five Minute Frosty Eye

Sometimes it's a good idea to revisit the classics. One of my favorite looks has always been this super-frosty, gradient-type eyeshadow, which I achieve by mixing a whole bunch of Chanel Illusion d'Ombres with a few metallic pink eyeshadows. This time I added the Charlotte Ronson liquid eyeshadow in Sky over the type, which had the surprising effect of making everything look very soft focus and smooth.

Unfortunately, I look like a crazy person in these pictures. I'm going to blame it on my asymmetrical face and call it a day.

BASE: MAC Strobe Cream, MAC Face & Body in N1 + White, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly, Dolce & Gabbana powder foundation in 50 Ivory, Skindinavia setting spray

EYES: MAC eyebrows in Lingering, Anastasia clear brow gel, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Epatant and Illusoire, Lancome eyeshadow in Pink Zinc, Charlotte Ronson Liquid eyeshadow in Sky, Wet n' Wild eyeshadow in Brulee, Clinique gel liner in True Black, Milani Liquid Eyes pencil in Black, L'oreal Voluminous mascara

CHEEKS: Cargo blush in Catalina, Benefit High Beam

LIPS: Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in Native

I had a lot of trouble getting this freaking camera to focus. Then I realized...my camera is a shady bitch.

I SEE HOW IT IS.

Beauty Sightings: RuPaul's Drag Race, Season 3

I kind of fell off the bandwagon with these Beauty Sightings, yeah? I have absolutely no idea why I've done seasons 2 and 4 of this show and not 3. Forgive me and let's move on to the beauty sightings--I could really use some brand help on this one!

But not for the drinks, which are hilariously covered up with post-it notes. Anybody else ever notice that? Coke, why don't you want a Drag Race endorsement?!

Venus D-Lite darkens her brows even when she's not in drag.

Shangela pressing on cream foundation. I've heard tell she uses Graftobian HD, but don't quote me!

There's a MAC lipstick here, but I can't see the mascara behind it super-well. There's a blush palette here, but it looks like a bunch of depots, yeah?

Loose powder. Is this Ben Nye? Kryolan? Dermablend? They're all popular drag brands.

I've been trying so hard to figure out what this palette is! Google Fu is failing me. :( Kryolan was the sponsor for this season, so my assumption is that it's one of their products.

Delta's makeup spread.

Kryolan makeup remover and a blush palette. There's also some press-on nails and false lashes.

Alexis Mateo appears to have a MAC blush palette. Also, I will forever love this season for including the definitions of busted...

...and garage doors. Flawless.

Sprays behind Manila. The gold bottle is the much-loved L'oreal Elnett spray, excellent for holding wig hairs in place.

Another shot of those blushes, plus some Ru Glue and what appears to be a MAC cream blush.

A vanity shot and Shangela holding a MAC shadow.

Another shot of that f'ing palette! They're featuring it way too much for it to NOT be Kryolan...is it maybe a version of the 18 Color Variety Palette that I haven't seen?

Manila and Stacey painting their nails with a Wet n' Wild polish.

There's a NYX jumbo pencil in the mirror, and I think the powders are a mixture of MAC and theater brands.

Ben Nye powder on the table, most likely Translucent or Neutral Set.

A shot inside some kits and bags. There's a NYX compact in the train case and a Joe Blasco product on the vanity.

I can't tell if this is setting spray or hair spray.

Gratuitous shot of Yara putting on her makeup, just because she always manages to look beautiful when she does it while the rest of us look like a bunch of morons.
