Casual 2017 Project Pan

Two of my goals for 2017 were to complete $1000 worth of products this year and to go through as many samples as I could. With a full year to achieve these goals and no strict rules, I've been decidedly casual about finishing stuff, and I think it's working well for me. Therefore, I'm going to do another Project Pan. Instead of going on a buying freeze in the meantime, I'm just going to follow one rule: "Finish this stuff by the end of 2017."

So here's what I've picked for the year!
  1. any mini lipstick -- I have, I think, 5 mini lipsticks in my collection right now, and there are a couple in my sample box waiting to get pulled out. I'd like to finish any one of them. It's most likely that I'll finish MAC Creme Cup, since it's a light color with minimal staying power.
  2. Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream and Youth to the People Kale + Spinach Moisturizer samples -- These are small enough that I'd prefer to treat them as one item. Neither moisturizer has knocked it out of the park for me, but they're serviceable. Until I find my ideal daytime, under-makeup moisturizer, these are what I have.
  3. Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint in Light -- I've owned this product before and finished over half of it, but I became convinced that it was causing an adverse reaction on my skin, so I got rid of it. I later realized that another product was causing the problem. Repurchase, then! I really enjoy this product; I have no doubt that I can finish it by the end of the year.
  4. Maybelline Dream Lumi Pen in Ivory -- I bought this shade because I thought it would be a great stand-alone undereye concealer for low makeup days. It's okay, but I really do prefer the Radiant shade, which is a peachy corrector that I like to mix with another concealer on my undereyes. I'll go back to using Radiant once this tube is done.
  5. Glossier Balm Dot Com in Mint -- I've finished several tubes of (and have repurchased) the Coconut Balm Dot Com, and that's fine by me; the smell and flavor are unique and pleasant enough. The mint, though, is just...mint. I greatly prefer Jack Black's lip balm if I'm going for mint, since that product also includes sunscreen. I didn't mark this tube, but you can see that right now, the product starts just about the word "Glossier."

  1. Unrelated but since you have a thing for lipsticks, I've read/seen good things about Troi Olliviere's ones. They're crazy pigmented and the colors are just plain beautiful. I know you're trying to limit yourself, but I'd be curious to know if you like them!

  2. I'm trying to finish my Marc Jacobs birthday gift lipstick mini this year - lipstick minis are so much less daunting to pan than full-sized ones. Your list seems totally manageable to me. I know I can go through one of those concealer pens in a few months if it's all I'm using, and base products are doable too. When it comes to minis are you going to calculate their value using price per ounce based on the full size?

  3. Would love to be updated on your dry-skin, light-colored, under-makeup moisturizer journey. I am currently on it right now as well.

    Things I've tried recently:

Cerave PM- works decently well, but doesn't really impact flakies and also I don't like when things sink ALL the way in to be imperceptable. I like a bit of a that moisturized feel.

Embryolisse - I like it, but I'm not sure that I wholly trust shea butter on my skin. I am not one to demonize ingredients, but some iterations of shea make me nervous for pore clogging.

Glossier Priming and Rich Cream - both EH. Priming Moisturizer feel like nothing. Rich felt clogging eventually. Not into the smells either.

Nivea (German Version) - I found this at my local fancy pharmacy and couldn't not pick it up for an experiment. In looking at a lot of other french brands, I found that they all relied on the water/oil emulsion that originated 100 years ago with Nivea, so I thought I'd go to the source. My mom used to use it on her hair my entire childhood, so I am familiar with the blue and white tins. I am actually pleasantly suprized with this. It seems VERY non-reactive, and I my facialist just told me that my skin has never looked better after a weeks-worth of use. I think that people need to stop caring about Mineral Oil products because they actually work to protect your skin without fucking it up.

BUT, I do want a summery moisturizer that is thinner, but still emollient feeling, and not just a jacked up version of hyaluronic acid (which I feel to be generally ineffective unless you have oily skin and live in a humid climate).

SO TLDR: Keep us updated on moisturizer!

    1. The search continues! I have considered German Nivea, too, by the way.
