Return of the Lipstick Diaries #3 - Besame Chocolate Kiss and MAC Kinda Sexy

I was apparently in a very brown-beige-nude sort of mood this January, huh? But these are two very different colors. The first one is Besame Chocolate Kiss, a duplicate of a 1970s lipstick shade. It's a rich brown shade with a lot of red tones in it. Normally I don't go for brown shades because they just look weird on my skintone, but the warmth in Chocolate Kiss saves it for me. I'm glad I only have a mini, though, because I know this is a shade I'll enjoy when I wear it, but won't wear often. As a side note, this lipstick normally has a tad more shine to it--I blotted it because I was reminiscing about my 90s childhood. Man, I loved raiding my best friend's sister's makeup and seeing all of the dark plums and matte browns!

Annnnyway. I've got another nude peach shade here (WTF is my problem lately?), MAC Kinda Sexy. I've been wanting to try this shade for a long time, so I was beyond thrilled to get it in a pack of 4 mini lipsticks I received as a gift. I actually really like this color on me: it's got just the right balance of peach and brown, and it's not as dark and muddy or as pastel as some other peachy nudes. I've noticed that I've acquired a few of these types of lipsticks in the past year, though, so I'll have to do some careful comparisons in a few months to pick the ones that perform the best.

If you're looking forward to more Lipstick Diaries and a dozen new shots of my super sexy default head tilt, let me know!

  1. Did MAC have 4 minis recently? If so, I guess I missed it. Perhaps it was only offered in the US - we are makeup deprived in Canada.....

  2. Man, I can't get over how good Chocolate Kiss looks on you! If I ever try Besame products I think that'll have to be the one.

Revlon still makes Toast of New York!! I don't think many people buy it anymore, though.

  3. I love Chocolate Kiss on you! It does look like a 70s color, in the best way.

    1. The more I wear it, the more I dig it.

  4. Kinda Sexy looks great on you! I've been trying to find a similar peachy shade that leans a bit browner.

    1. I was going to say Bite Meringue, but if I remember, you didn't like the Amuse Bouche formula...?

    2. Yeah, that formula just doesn't work for me, much as I wish it did. :( One of the NARS LE lipsticks for this spring, Kiss Me Stupid, is fairly close to the color I'm going for. I haven't seen it in person yet, though, and I think it might be too dark.

  5. I had been going back and forth on the Chocolate Kiss. Your picture just sold me. It looked a little too brown for me until I saw it on you. The red saves it. More Lipstick Diaries please! :)

    1. Bear in mind that it doesn't pull that red on everybody; on Temptalia, who has more of a medium/tan skintone, it looks like a terracotta shade. But on me, the red undertones are quite obvious!

  6. I’m a fan of this series! I love the idea of Besame lipsticks, although I don’t know if any shade is actually inspiring enough for me to purchase. But Chocolate Kiss looks awesome on you!

    1. I think the Besame lipsticks are really meant to be solid staples versus super-unique shades. I'm looking at Portrait Pink, myself!

  7. I have a blog topic request: your thoughts on food-grade lip products (I notice that Bite is prominent in your collection.) The thought of all the lip products I consume over the years is kinda getting to me. I love your scientific style of writing, so I think you could really do this topic justice - if you want to.

    1. I've used a good amount of Bite, but I don't own a bunch, if that makes sense. I don't know if this is actually a post I could do justice, since I'm not a chemist; that said, I *have* considered writing about more "natural" or "green" products. I just don't have the materials or information gathered yet.
