On a particularly dreary Pennsylvania day, with 50-mile-an-hour winds whipping the trees and rain pouring from the skies, I decided to do another Pinterest inspiration look. I went for one I knew I would probably enjoy more in theory than in practice. Sure enough, this is something that photographs well and was really fun to do, but you'd never get me out of my house looking like this.
Can we just appreciate how drunk I look in all of my comparison photos!?
Anyway! I really loved this inspiration image, though I was unable to find a source using Google reverse image search (and that tends to irritate me). While the all-pink look on the left is pretty, I was more drawn to the green/orange contrasting look on the right. Washes of pastel color, bright lips, glowy skin...what's not to love?
Again, I don't think this was as successful on me, in part because I don't have the incredible lid space that the two original models have. But it was fun!
The biggest challenge I faced with this one was my lack of pastel eyeshadows. I rarely wear powder eyeshadow, so I knew I'd have to doctor my one remaining palette--the Urban Decay Book of Shadows II--to create a passable shade. So I primed my eyelids with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (a matte white) and patted the iridescent purple, Ecstasy, on top. Keeping mascara and liquid liner smears off of the pastel purple was a nightmare thereafter.
I held a few lipsticks up to my eyes to see which had the best contrast, and I ended up going with MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus I. In retrospect, an orange may have worked better, but I was worried it would distract complete from all of the asdflkj23 effort I put in to the pastel eyeshadow. Glowy skin was achieved with MAC Face & Body foundation, BBIA Downy Cheek in Downy Pink, and endless layers of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl. Then I doused myself in Cinema Secrets Moisture Spray.
I really love this! Well done on improvising a pastel shadow, and that lipstick looks great on you. I've been feeling inspired by pastels recently, too. I think it's interesting that cool-toned pastels are so trendy in Korean makeup (e.g. the photos you posted), since most Koreans have warm-toned skin. Just goes to show that our Western hangups about undertones don't apply globally.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those monsters who tends to like warm-on-cool and cool-on-warm, but I know it seems strange to a lot of folks on our side of the ocean. Really, though, global beauty trends are just fascinating.

DeleteI actually love this look on you, though it's definitely not an everyday option. The lipstick and eyeshadow strangely complement each other (and your colouring) really well!
ReplyDeleteI would probably prefer to wear one at a time, y'know? Like, pastel eyeshadow with a long winged liner one day, a bright lip the next.
